Pagi ini saya bangun, shubuhan dan tidur lagi. Halaaah.. sebenernya sih nyari kolam renang. Waktu packing, baju renang udah nyaris saya sumpal barengan jaket, ketika ingat suhu udara di Genting berkisar 5-15 derajat, hihihi.. Etapiiii, di Awana ada tuh kolam renang, dan airnya hangat! *kudu dicobain*


Bakery

Fresh Loaves!

A cafe dedicated for baked goods, that is Bakery. Located right by the lobby of Maxims Hotel, you can't miss this place as it displayed loaves and loaves of beautiful bread on its glass rack. Gak cuma roti yang cakep-cakep itu, mereka juga serving pastry, quiche, cake, pie, donut, even french macaroon! Jadi kalo mau sarapan atau makan siang makaron perancis yang manis dan warna-warni itu, bisaaaa.. *it actually happened on our last day, btw :)*


Sandwich here was made fresh upon your request, your choice of filling, your choice of bread. They have everything: wholegrain, ciabatta, foccacia, kraft korn, rye bread, country style, you name it. Here among the pretty loaves, was the place we had our first breakfast.

I had this lovely almond croissant that now I crave for, and grabbed raisin cheese cream danish. I just needed to take one bite of that thing, one bite was all I need *I just lied*. Hot earl grey tea, for sure, and yes, with honey. Brad finished the raisin cheese cream danish for me :). And French Hot Chocolate was a hit!

We basically grabbed everything and shared everything. From cakes to sandwiches. From pastries to quiches. Took pictures before we ate them. Bloggers.

I love this cafe, I can see myself plunging in the corner spending the day with a cup of hot Earl Grey tea, a good book, a plate of sweet nibbles, watching the day gone by. Oh, my.

Earlier this morning we were introduced to Tanent, a guy who would take place of Dee Linn later on. After breakfast, the three of 'em took us to.. the outdoor theme park! Yeayyy..!

You know I already knew what to expect from a theme park. We would be kids again, all play and nothing but the play. But a theme park on top of a mountain turned out to be something I reeaaally enjoyed, because the weather is oh so nice! The cold air and the fog totally made perfect match with the rides. We were taken to high adrenalin rides: Spinner, Cork Screw, Pirate Ship, and Flying Coaster. Not for the weak hearts! :D

Masih banyak wahana lain yang kami gak bisa cobain satu-satu karena jadwal yang padet-det, dan  yang dipilihin buat kami kayaknya emang yang top adrenalin semua, mwahaaa.. Lovin' it :)

Karena jadwal yang padat itu juga tripod saya tinggal di kamar hotel, soalnya udah nebak gak bakalan sempet bikin-bikin foto slow shutter yang saya rencanain sebelumnya, and I was right. So many rides, so little time *sigh*

Di dekat wahana Flying Coaster, which was a jet coaster yang orang-orangnya diposisikan tengkurep, ada London Bus yang merah ituuuu.. cakeeep, me likey! Saya sempet browsing jajanan lucu-lucu, ada duren goreng, sate bakso, jagung manis, roti canai, dan aneka gorengan yang kayaknya sih cihuy banget buat diganyem sambil naik monorail keliling theme park.

It was noon already, sumpah gak kerasa. We said goodbye to Dee Linn and headed off for lunch at Happy Valley Restaurant, where we were gonna have.. lobsters!


Happy Valley Seafood

Waktu baca di itinerary bahwa kami akan makan siang di sini, saya gak nebak sama sekali kalau ini adalah resto seafood. Begitu liat foto-foto di dekat pintu masuk dan nama yang terpampang di atasnya, Happy Valley Seafood, sontak saya silent screaming, yyeaayyy..

Sebetulnya galau banget kalo ke resto seafood. Pasalnya, ada resto seafood yang menghidangkan sahabat saya yang dilindungi: hiu. Jadi saya pilih-pilih bulu tuh kalo mau makan seafood. Cari resto seafood yang menunya gak ada si teman laut yang kharismatik itu.

I'm a big seafood eater. So this lunch was a feast for me :) Andalan resto ini adalah Australian Lobster Baked with Butter and Cheese, and it definitely deserved its throne! You know, hewan-hewan laut membutuhkan keterampilan tinggi dalam mengolahnya. You cook it too long, they become rubbery, dry and tasteless. You cook it too short, they will be undercooked and also rubbery. Keterampilan memasak hewan laut, terutama udang, lobster, cumi, scallop, termasuk juga abalone, dengan waktu yang presisi untuk menghasilkan tekstur lembut serta cita rasa manis yang belum hilang, tidak dapat dipelajari dalam buku. Hanya chefs dan cooks dengan jam terbang tinggi saja umumnya piawai mengolah mereka. Begitu saya cicipi lobster dengan tekstur selembut kue bolu, dan udang yang moist dan manis alami, rasanya kepingin banting kopiah di depan juru masaknya. Hats off to the cook! He certainly had done justice to the beautiful creatures of the sea!

Baked Lobster & Chilli Crab

We had Sup Jagung Kepiting, Steamed Sea Grouper "Teow Chew Style", Stir-fried Japanese snail "Kam Heong Style", Singapore Chili Crab, Stir-fried Hong Kong Choy Sum, Deep-fried Boneless Chicken in Plum Sauce, Poached Grass Prawn, Deep-fried Bean Curd in Thai Sauce, and of course, the highlight of everything: Baked Lobster (see the slideshow at the end of this post for complete photos of the food).

When the lobster on our table was done, saya lirik-lirik ke meja sebelah. Masih ada dua potong lagi! Hiahaaaa.. Dalam sekejap dua potong lobster berpindah meja. Setelah dirundingkan secara musyawarah dan mufakat, teman-teman merelakan sisa lobster tersebut diselesaikan secara kekeluargaan oleh saya dan Rain. Terimakasih yaaaaaa.. *cium ikan mujair*


Snow World: Chilling and Sliding

Kelar makan siang, saya, Leila, Rain, Lucky, Arie dan Ariy ke surau dulu untuk sholat dzuhur dan ashar, lalu nyusul teman-teman lain yang udah duluan ke Snow World. Sebelum masuk Snow World, kami dipakein jaket tebel plus sarung tangan. Soalnya di dalem nanti dinginnya nyamain suhu di Ranu Kumbolo, -7 derajat Celsiuuuss.. ciyus!

Ahayyy.. di dalem kami main-main, foto-foto, sayangnya gak dibikinin hujan salju, hihihi.. Ada slope untuk sliding pake ban gede-gede yang belum dibuka untuk umum,  tapi berhubung lagi jadi raja tiga hari --mwahaaa, it seemed our wish was a command! Jadi kita dibolehin sliding-an dweeeehhhh.. syuuuutttt.. kurang panjaaaaaannnggg….

Badan saya udah mulai menggigil ketika memutuskan mengikuti beberapa teman yang duluan keluar, sementara beberapa lagi masih foto-foto. Yang paling sakti mandraguna, Gricia. Temen sekamar saya yang cantik ini pake celana pendek! Sungguh wanita berdarah dingin :)


Sky Diving at Sky Venture

Sky Venture

Saya udah pernah lihat wahana ini di televisi dan kemencer banget pingin nyobain. Sky Venture pada dasarnya adalah simulasi olahraga ekstrim sky diving. Pada sky diving, kita terjun dari pesawat pada ketinggian sekitar 4000 mdpl, lalu free falling selama kurang lebih 60-75 detik sebelum mencapai ketinggian kurang lebih 2500 kaki (760 meter) untuk melemparkan pilot chute yang akan mengeluarkan parachute. Proses ketika terjun bebas selama 60-75 detik inilah yang disimulasi di Sky Venture, dengan menghembuskan angin maha kuat dari bawah ruangan dengan kecepatan kurang lebih sama dengan kecepatan terjun bebas dari ketinggian tersebut. Syedep kan?

Karena faktor esktrim ini juga maka sebelum menjalani aktivitas ini pengunjung harus melewati beberapa tahap persiapan yang cukup serius. Mulai dari penimbangan badan, menandatangani surat pernyataan --dan surat wasiat, mwaha--, pake padding di siku dan lutut, pake jump suit khusus, pakai sepatu kets, lalu mulai training singkat. Kami diajarkan postur yang benar ketika ber-"sky diving" supaya gak terpelanting kesana-kemari. Lalu diajarkan bahasa isyarat: instruksi untuk menekuk kaki, meluruskan kaki, menahan posisi, mengangkat dagu, dll. Ini gunanya agar instruktur tetap bisa berkomunikasi mengkoreksi posisi badan kita dalam hembusan angin 193 km/jam yang menulikan telinga itu. Setelah itu memasang sumbat telinga, kaca mata terbang, dan terakhir, helm.

Kami masuk ruangan lalu duduk menunggu giliran seperti para penyelam angkasa yang tengah mengantri terjun bebas. Ruangan Sky Venture ada di hadapan kami, berbentuk silinder dan terbuka di dua pintu sempit untuk keluar masuk. Bagian bawahnya besi berlubang di mana angin akan berhembus melaluinya. Mesin mulai dinyalakan, angin menghembus kencang. Dua instruktur kami mulai memanggil kami satu persatu, aaaahhhh... adrenalin rush! Tiap orang menjalani sesi "sky diving" individually alias sendiri-sendiri. Hayo looohhh! Pak Fairuz, instruktur kami, menginstruksikan untuk mulai mengambil posisi lalu mendorong tubuh kami memasuki chamber. And we're flyyyiiiing!!

Menjaga posisi tubuh supaya gak muter-muter terpelanting dihembus angin, gak semudah seperti di iklan-iklan minuman bersoda itu! Berulangkali tubuh kami miring kanan kiri, membentur-bentur dinding, turun terlalu rendah, naik terlalu tinggi, muter-muter gak kejelasan, salto tanpa bentuk, mwaaaa... sambil berusaha keras mengingat-ingat pelajaran singkat yang tadi diberikan, di tengah deru angin yang memekakkan telinga! Pak Fairuz dan asistennya bergantian ada bersama kami dalam chamber, ngebenerin posisi tangan, kaki, dagu, bahkan narik badan kami kalo udah melenceng parah dan gak bisa ditolong lagi pake bahasa isyarat. Ma'aaaaap...!

And this was the best part. Masing-masing orang mendapatkan dua kali giliran masuk ke dalam chamber. Ketika giliran yang kedua, begitu posisi kami stabil, instruktur akan memegang tangan dan kaki kita lalu "terbang" bersama dalam formasi dua orang, kayak di film-film James Bond itu! Terus kita diputerrrr oleh sang instruktur.. kuenceeeng banget, naik tinggiiiii, lalu turun sampai rendaaaaahhhh, naik tinggiiii lagiiiiii, sambil terus muter berdua dalam kecepatan tinggi! Banjir adrenalin!

Udahannya kita dikasih sertifikat sudah terbang 193 km/hour or greater. Aaaah, belum pernah sebelumnya saya kesenengan dikasih sertifikat! As silly as you might think it is, I can't help but feeling proud of myself :) Maklum, belom kesampean paralayang di Puncak :D


Dinner at Ming Ren: Fit for the Kings!

Salah satu program yang udah gegap gempita saya incar dari Jakarta, selain nyobain makanan-makanan enak, adalah spa. Dududuu.. Kami dibagi dua kelompok, kelompok pertama spa di sore hari sehabis dari Sky Venture. Saya dengan sungguh ikhlas dan tawadhu menawarkan diri masuk grup berikutnya, yang akan menjalani spa di malam hari sebelum tidur. Gyaaa..

Sementara grup satu liyeur-liyeur dipijitin di M-Spa Maxims Hotel, saya, Rain, dan kedua Ari, melipir ke area indoor theme park, dengan misi suci: naik monorail keliling theme park. Gegegeggg.. Delapan ringgit, keliling deh kita sore-sore… Aaaah romantis.. mwahahaaa.. kurang teh anget aja nih :)

Balik ke hotel, menemukan kamar udah di make-up rapi, semua supply udah direplenish lagi. Wahai handuk baru, marilah kita mandi!

Dinner tonight was at Ming Ren, and it turned out to be a dinner fit for the kings! Chinese Cucumber with Special Bean Paste yang surprisingly enak as an entree, lalu main course Xinjiang Lamb Skewer, Steamed Marble Goby Fish, Roasted Leg of Lamb with Hot and Sour Sauce, Golden Crispy Fried Prawns with Fruits and Wasabi, Stir-fried Scallops with Lily Bulbs, Sweet Corn and Hawaiian Nuts, and Braised Abalone with assorted Seafood with Chef's Special Sauce! Walaupun udah sering denger sebelumnya, pertama kali saya ketemu abalone dalam keadaan hidup adalah di culinary exhibition Food and Hotel Asia 2012 di Singapore pada April lalu, di mana supplier-supplier seafood dari Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Amerika dan Eropa memamerkan hasil budidaya lautnya yang beraneka rupa. Abalone besar-besar ditempatkan dalam akuarium-akuarium air laut. Meski sudah diternakkan, moluska laut ini tetap merupakan komoditi mewah yang hanya dihidangkan di resto-resto kelas atas. Gak pernah lihat abalone dijual kiloan di pasar kan?

Scallop, meski gak semahal abalone, juga termasuk luxury seafood dan dihidangkan di resto-resto tertentu saja. Walaupun sih, tergantung juga di mana kita tinggal. Temen saya yang tinggal di Medan bisa-bisanya masak scallop buat sehari-hari. Huaaa, mauuu...

Makan malam ditutup dengan dessert yang sungguh gak bisa saya lupakan hingga detik catatan ini ditulis. Judulnya sih biasa, Almond and Pistachio Ice Cream. Tapiiii, cita rasanya sungguh gak ada duanya! Ada rasa dan aroma cinnamon dan jahe yang lembut, dihidangkan di atas saus puree labu kuning, ditaburi serpih almond panggang, digarnish dengan daun thyme segar. It's a paradox, really. Because cinnamon and ginger are spices that invoke warmth, while ice cream is essentially cold. It created an effect I never experienced before: while it was refreshing, it was also robust and hearty. I gotta say, this was a sweet paradox I love so much, I could eat a bucket!

First World Showroom: Freeze 2

As if the dinner was not enough, we were taken to First World Showroom afterward, a theater, to see "Freeze 2", a performance on ice incorporating dance, magic show and acrobat in one glimmering show! The dance was beautiful, the magic was David Copperfield kinda thing --you know, with giant chainsaw, theatrical effect, flying action--, and the acrobat was world class. We're talking Chinese acrobat with stacked chairs reaching the roof, for one thing. No camera nor video was allowed, so we didn't get to snap anything. But the whole show was totally entertaining, perfect to end the day.


Rejuvenating at M-Spa

But something else was beyond perfect to end the day. Uh-huh, uh-huh, I was talking about the spa! After the show, while the rest of the gank headed back to their rooms, the second group --that included me :)-- took its turn to be treated like the royals at M-Spa. The packages for us were body scrub combined with neck and shoulder massage, and Balinese massage with earwax candling. Those were followed by relaxing ourselves for as long as we like in the sauna and steaming room, as well as Jacuzzi that was still running hot until 1 o'clock in the morning! How do they sound for closing the day?

The calming aromatherapy scent, soothing sound of nature and water running, warming whirling all over my skin, while sipping ginger tea and nibbling fresh cut fruits serving right by the Jacuzzi. Hot towel on my face. Tranquil and serene.

Night, love. Sweet dreams.

Back in my room, it was 1 am already, Gricia was not there so I thought she was out at Patio with the others. Changed into pajama and hit the ever-so-comfy bed, I checked my twitter to find a mention from her telling me that she and everybody else were spending the night in Brad & Wiwit's room! Mwahaaaa.. I could imagine what a crazy night it would be :D But I had to pass, my eyes were 5 watts already.

Night, gank. Behave. :D
